Vickfest 2018

On Saturday 1st September 2018, we were invited to attend Vickfest at Ashfield FC in Leasowe. This event was in aid of Vickie Charlesworth, who was recently diagnosed with MND. Our visit to Vickfest raised £97 for MNDA Wirral from donations and selling merchandise.

It was an afternoon packed with fun for all the family with a Tombola, face painting, bouncy castles, plenty of food and drink, even zorbing! Rocking the official MNDA T-shirts, we set off around the venue in search of donations. We handed out stickers to many people attending the event which got everyone in a very generous mood to help us fill our buckets.

The party atmosphere was kept going by a DJ and live music. All the musicians who played were local including Tone Junkies, who are play regularly on the Wallasey Pub Scene. Tracey, who has MND, came to join us at our stall to help sell merchandise and helped attendees to understand and raise awareness about the disease. However, this didn’t stop her dancing all afternoon!

Back on our MNDA stall, we had plenty of merchandise to help us raise money such as China mugs, wristbands, water bottles, pin badges, pencils and handbags. The best seller of the afternoon was our MNDA T-shirts as attendees young and old queued up to both support our charity and make a fashion statement too!

Welcome to MNDA Wirral Group

Welcome to our MNDA Wirral Group blog. We are a group of volunteers who have created this blog to keep you up to date with the latest news, events and stories important to those affected by MND.

What is MND?

Motor Neurone Disease is a group of diseases that cause the nerves in your brain and spine to gradually stop working. Messages from the nerves eventually stop reaching the muscles, resulting in them weakening, stiffening and wasting. Around 5000 people in the UK have MND at any one time and each individual experiences the disease in a different way. MND is a life-shortening disease and currently there is no cure.

 Who are MNDA Wirral Group?

We are a charity group devoted to supporting those living with or affected by Motor Neurone Disease by improving care, research and campaigning. Our group is run by a group of local volunteers who support those affected by MND through social events, raising awareness to others and campaigning for change.

Our new blog gives us the opportunity to share our stories and promote awareness for MND on a digital scale. We will also act as an information hub for any questions you may have about the disease and where to get support. Regular updates from our blog and social media will keep you up to date on everything that is happening with MNDA Wirral Group.

What do we aim to achieve?

We want a world free from MND. We are improving care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.

We are funding and promoting research that will give us a new understanding and treatments that will bring us closer to finding a cure.

We are campaigning and raising awareness so the needs of people with MND and everyone who cares for them are recognised and addressed by wider society.
